Our Story

How we met

Taty's Take:

We met in High school. Waldo says we met freshmen year but honestly I have no recollection (lol). We were good friends throughout our high school years, but never dated, the timing was just never right.

Waldo's Way:

We first set eyes on each other freshman year of high school. We were friends that barely spoke, Taty sat behind my friend Jeffrey in social studies class and I sat next to him and the rest is history, we have been friends until the day we started dating oct 20th 2005, our freshman year of college.

When we realized each other was "the one"

Taty's Take:

I knew Waldo was "the one" even before we started dating. I remember one specific prayer that I made one night, where I asked God to help me meet someone just like Waldo (I hoped for him of course ;-) I'm happy to say my prayer was answered and everything just fell into place.  There is no one in this world like Waldo and I feel like he is the perfect one for me.

Waldo's Way:

When I got to know Taty as a friend I always wanted to be with someone like her. She was family oriented, nice, and caring. I had a crush on her although I never expressed it to her. I knew after high school that she was "the one", it was just a matter of getting together and getting to know each other at a deeper level.

The Proposal

Taty's Take:

Well, I had been pressuring Waldo for us to get married probably since we got together. We've been together almost 8 years and I was starting to feel like the proposal was coming soon, and I feared that I wouldn't be surprised when it actually happened because I was expecting it. Months passed and the ring never came (lol). Then this past August we got a phone call to schedule a walk through of our new apartment which we had been axiously awaiting. Our family was super excited for us, so I decided to invite my mom and dad to see our new place! little did I know Waldo was planning for our entire family to be there. He even planned a secret dinner with my parents before the proposal to ask them for my hand in Marriage, (he knew that was important to me). We arrived at the apartment and about an hour into the walk through all of our friends and family showed up and I assumed they were all super excited about seeing the apartment (lol). We're all in our soon to be living room, and I was distracted by my future brother in law :-) as Waldo got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! in front of everyone, I was shocked! I couldn't believe it! it was so sweet and intimate and it meant so much to me that our friends and family were there to share in the moment. It was perfect.

Waldo's Way:

The proposal came after years of insisting. When I finally decided to buy the ring I went shopping alone, with no success. I needed help shopping, so I reached out to her sister Nathalie to help me buy the ring. We met up on a cold saturday in January and went to the diamond district in Manhattan (Taty was completely unaware). I had the ring for 7- 8 months and that whole time I was planning a proposal that would surprise her and make her happy. I planned about 3 different proposals before I actually decided to go with proposing at our apartment walk through. The appointment to view the apartment took a long time to come, which was perfect. Taty had given up hope. The call to view the apartment was on a Monday and we were scheduled to see it on Wednesday, because Taty did not want to wait any longer. Since buying the ring, I had procrastinated "the talk" with her parents. Since I had waited so long I only had two days to meet with her parents and set a plan to have both our friends and family at the apartment. My plan was to have everyone in one room and as she walked into the room she would see them and wonder why they were all there. However, it did not work out that way and she saw everyone enter the apartment and she was so distracted by everyone that she had no presence in mind that I was about to propose. When everyone was in the living room I told them to prepare their cameras. After my borther Juan Carlos engaged her in a conversation and she turned her back to me, I got on one knee and asked her to mary me. She was completely surprised and after many "what are you doing?" she finally said yes. It was perfect, it was exactly what she wanted.
